This is an edited video of my Seaplane Flying adventure in Alaska in August 2016 –

Oh! I am so itchy to get back to California and go out flying.

New York City

Landed at NYC. The pilots did a weird high descent rate. 35k feet to ground in like 10 mins. My ears and nose were going crazy. JetBlue is awesome as always. Got 3 empty seats so slept off for a few hrs. On landing, the flight attendant says “ladies and gentlemen, we have landed at NYC, a little early (20 mins) please remember that the next time we are a little late”.

That pic, all that black between the lights is all snow. Brrrr!

Deer on runway 31

Share Button

Not sure if this really happened somewhere but someone forwarded this one off the online forums at West Valley flying club.

A student pilot and his instructor are holding short of runway 31, waiting for takeoff clearance

A deer is on the runway… so…

Tower: Cessna XXX cleared for take-off.
Std: ‘What should I do? What should I do?’
Inst: ‘What do you think you should do?’ (think-think-think)

Std: ‘Maybe if I taxi toward him it’ll scare him away.’
Inst: ‘That’s a good idea.’ (Taxi toward deer, but deer is macho, and holds position.)

Tower: Cessna XXX cleared for take-off, runway 31.

Std: ‘What should I do? What should I do?’
Inst: ‘What do you think you should do?’ (think-think-think)
Std: ‘Maybe I should tell the tower.’
Inst: ‘That’s a good idea.’

Std: Cessna XXX, uh, there’s a deer down here on the runway (long pause)
Tower: Roger XXX, hold your position.
Tower: Deer on runway 31 cleared for immediate departure.
(Two seconds, and then — I presume by coincidence — the deer bolts from the runway, and runs back into the woods.)

Tower: Cessna XXX cleared for departure, runway NN. Caution wake turbulence, departing deer.

Our longest trip to date. Palo Alto Airport (KPAO) to Calaveras Airport (KCPU) and back.

Tried to meetup with Joy (http://joyduttaphoto.com) and Piyush (returning back from mono lake) but their cell phones were not reachable.
